Lake Wanaka and its surrounding area has three primary schools and one high school:

Wanaka Primary School has a roll of 430 students and moved into their new state of the art school in October 2010. The school is a learning community where they strive to make a real difference to their students through a supportive atmosphere. The learning environment shows the value they place on the arts along with a strong sporting involvement.

Holy Family School We are a full primary (from New Entrants to Year 8) state integrated school with a special Catholic character. We were founded in 2006 and our charism is ‘Family/Whanau’ which means we promote and embrace strong family values in our teaching and learning. Hawea Flat School is a seven teacher school located in a semi-rural area 6 kms from Lake Hawea Township and only 16kms from Wanaka.  Hawea Flat School has a supportive learning environment with the children enjoying being part of a school community. The school endeavours to make the most of the unique environment in which they live.

Mt Aspiring College has a current role of approx. 710 students along with 31 students from overseas. Mt Aspiring College prides itself on being an innovated and forward thinking learning community with the small size of the college being one of its major strengths providing a supportive family atmosphere in which all students are recognised. The College has achieved excellent academic results and utilises the local environment in its comprehensive Outdoor Education programme.
